At long last the warm days of summer have arrived, and with the arrival of summer comes a wide range of vibrant events taking place around Dorset. This charming region is home to a number of picturesque villages offering a host of summer activities perfect for the whole family.
From Sturminster Newton with its historical charm to Cerne Abbas with its distinctive hillside carving, the villages of Dorset offer a variety of things to see and do for visitors and locals alike. Sturminster Newton Charity Car Boot Sale - 7th April to 1st September
Running from early April to the start of September, the Sturminster Newton Charity Car Boot Sale is held on the first Sunday of each month. Taking place at Ricketts Lane Recreation Ground, the event allows local residents and bargain enthusiasts to grab some great deals while supporting worthy causes. The final proceeds will be split evenly between two charities - The Hedgehog Rescue in Hazelbury Bryan and The Vale Pantry in Sturminster Newton.
Gaggle of Geese Pub Events, Buckland Newton
Gaggle of Geese is a family-friendly pub near Buckland Newton, hosting a range of lively events over the summer. As well as their monthly pub quiz and fortnightly Knit & Natter group, they also host regular live music sessions showcasing the talent of the region. Their annual music festival, the Gaggle Fest, will take place on Saturday 27th July, an exciting event not to be missed with fantastic local bands, wood-fired pizzas, glamping and more!
Cerne Abbas Brewery - A Summer-Long Series of Events
Head on down to the
Cerne Abbas Brewery for some fun-filled events this summer. Catch Jono and Scarecrow & Men of Cerne in late July. August brings some more summer music with the Endorset Festival, Weymouth-based singer Chris Davies and the lively Barnstomper Festival.
Rock & Roll Night - 29th June
Enjoy a night of music from the 50s at
Cerne Abbas Village Hall, with hits from Elvis, Bill Haley and Buddy Holly.
Cerne Abbas Church Fete - 6th July
This annual event takes place on the first Saturday in July. Expect a wide range of stalls featuring garden items, homemade cakes, books, games and more, as well as a tombola and raffle and delicious hot food.
Sherborne Pride - 7th July
Show your colours at
Sherborne Pride on 7th July, the village's first ever Pride event celebrating the LGBT+ community. Starting at midday in Paddock Gardens, the procession will weave its way through the streets, spreading colour and joy. There will also be live entertainment to enjoy in Pageant Gardens.
Upwey Village Fete - 11th August
The Upwey village fete is a fun-filled day out that the whole family can enjoy. Featuring great food and drink, craft stalls and music, it's the perfect way to spend a summer's day. Children will love the bouncy castle and trampolines as well as the vintage fairground games. Entry is free.
