Giants Head Local Links

The Park is centrally located for the both the New Forest to the East and the Jurassic Coastline to the South.
Only eight miles from Dorchester and ten miles from Sherborne, both ancient market towns steeped in history. Sherborne has two castles and an Abbey Church and was once the home of Sir Walter Raleigh. The County Town of Dorchester by comparison has a large selection of shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes. From a cultural side it also has the County Museum, the Tutankhamum Exhibition and its many links with Thomas Hardy.

Places to visit and things to do in the area include:

Horse Riding and pony trekking on farm land and tracks, only a few minutes' drive from Giants Head
Course Fishing in lakes two miles away. Trout fishing by arrangement. Sea fishing at Weymouth (15 miles)
Good walking country. The camp site is situated on the Wessex Ridgeway with footpaths to villages in the area.
We are also ideally situated for cycling holidays, with country lanes and plenty of village pubs!

Places to Eat & Shop

The Giant Inn
Formerly known as The Red Lion and rebuilt after a fire in 1898. The stone fireplace in the bar dates back to the 16th Century. The pub has its own skittle alley which is a regular meeting point for villagers.

The New Inn
The menu is created by using fresh, locally sourced food, prepared in a large and busy kitchen. A wide selection of dishes are available including fish, meat, game, vegetarian and children's meals plus a daily specials board.

The Royal Oak
Chef's daily specials include fish, game, and vegetarian menus. Serving real ales and fine wines with burning log fires in winter and an attractive courtyard garden to eat 'al fresco' in summer, a warm welcome awaits visitors to the Royal Oak.

Abbots
Abbots Brasserie and tea garden offers a traditional teashop menu during the day combined with light cooked meals and soup. Wherever possible local produce is used and meals are cooked freshly to order.
Abbots is a non-smoking establishment although visitors may smoke in the garden.

Cerne Abbas stores and post office
Open seven days a week selling a wide range of groceries, fruit and vegetables, frozen foods, wine and flowers. The store stocks local produce, milk and cream from Manor Farm, fresh bread and buns from Evershot and Maiden Newton bakeries alongside local cheeses. Customers may also send a fax, make a photocopy, rent a video or buy a lottery ticket.

The Old Saddler
The is a unique shop, with everything made on the premises. The boutique stocks a wide range of dress fabrics and has a selection of styles and sizes, which enables customers to have a garment made in the fabric of their choice and to their own specific size requirements.
Cerne Abbas Giant souvenirs including t-shirts, tea towels, aprons, mugs and pens along with other British crafts are also available.
