Cerne Abbas Open Gardens & Music Festival

The 44th Cerne Abbas Open Gardens event is due to be held on 15th and 16th June this year between 2pm and 6pm on both days. The Cerne Abbas Open Gardens is popular with both locals and tourists with around 25 gardens being open to the public to admire.  If you are staying at our camping site in Cerne Abbas over the weekend of 15th/16th June, then pop along to this wonderful village event.

All the gardens are in easy walking distance of the local car park and tickets cost just £7 for adults with free tickets for children with a paying adult.

Other highlights of the weekend include the well-stocked plant stall and tea at St. Marys Church from 1.30pm. Not only is this a fantastic local event but all proceeds get divided equally between Weldmar Hospice Care Trust and Cerne Watermeadow Trust.  Two very worthwhile causes!

Spring & summer camping breaks in Cerne Abbas – Sites to see this spring & summer if you are camping near Dorchester

There are so many great things to see and do if you are joining us at Giants Head this spring  or summer and camping near Dorchester.  Less than a 10-minute drive away is one of the more popular local attractions, Minterne House & Gardens.

Our campsite is near to Minterne, home to the lovely Minterne House & Gardens.   Minterne House & Gardens is a stunning country house in the heart of Dorset boasting a spectacular garden that has been featured on BBC’s Gardeners World.  To compliment the rhododendrons and the distinctive handkerchief tree, spring bulbs are now appearing in the Himalayan Garden.

The house is an attractive private residence that has been home to both the Digby and Churchill family before being rebuilt in the 1900’s.  The house that currently stands on the estate was designed by award winning architect Leonard Stokes and is just superb.

Entry to the beautiful garden is just £6 and children under 12 go free! The gardens are open from 1st February to 9th November from 10am – 6pm.

Why not visit Minterne House & Gardens while you are at our camping site in Cerne Abbas exploring the best of Dorset!

Cerne Giant Festival – 13th April to 6th May

The CERNE GIANT FESTIVAL was born out of our vibrant May Day tradition, when the Morris Dancers and villagers gather at dawn on the Trendle, the original site of the village Maypole at the top of the Cerne Giant, Dorset. Here we salute the sunrise and celebrate the start of summer with a barrel of Beltane Beer.

This is the third year of the Festival, which has now extended to about 3 weeks. With a theme of ‘Celebrating Humanity in the Landscape’, there will be a huge variety of events including workshops, talks, and walks so that there is something for everyone to explore their own connection with landscape of Dorset and what it means to them. Any profits from the Festival will go towards maintaining the fabric and work of the churches in the participating villages.
